Ohio Property Crimes Definitions 

Arson: the intentional burning of another's personal property without their consent or to defraud. This also includes the burning of forest land and state owned property. 

Burglary: is the unlawful entering into another's property, often by force with the intent to steal property or commit some other crime.

Robbery: is the use of force or threatening to use force in order to take money or property from another. 

Theft: the intentional act of taking another person's property in order to deprive them of their property.

Shoplifting: is the theft or concealment of property from a store without the intent to pay for it. 

Vandalism: is when a person's property is destroyed or defaced without their consent.

Larceny: is the taking of property that has value without another's consent with the intent to deprive them of their property.

Ohio Property Crimes Penalties 

The penalties for property crimes vary depending on the severity of the offense. 

Arson: it is a misdemeanor in the first degree if another person's property is destroyed without their consent; a felony in the fourth degree if the purpose was to defraud, have destroyed state owned property or forest land, or it is a felony in a third degree if damaged was cause to another's property through the offer or the acceptance of an agreement for hire or other consideration (ORC 2909.03).

Burglary: the alleged offender can be charged with a felony and the degree depends on different factors, such as whether a person is present at the property at the time of the burglary (ORC 2911.12).

Robbery: it is a felony in the second or third degree depending on whether the alleged offender has a weapon on them or he or she has threatened to use force (ORC 2911.02). 

Breaking and Entering: is a felony in the fifth degree (ORC 2911.13).
